San Jose Earthquakes News Release

The San Jose Earthquakes had two home matches last week against the Philadelphia Union (L 2-1) and Seattle Sounders FC (L 1-0) on Wednesday and Sunday, respectively. The Quakes are now in eighth place in the Western Conference, just one point behind seventh-place FC Dallas and two points behind the sixth-place Portland Timbers.

The Quakes can punch their ticket to the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs with a win in their season finale against the Timbers. San Jose's Decision Day match will take place on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Providence Park, with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. PT. Sunday's contest will be the lone MLS match broadcast nationally and will be shown live on ESPN. Ted Ramey (English) and Carlos Cesar Rivera (Spanish) will also call the match on KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF, respectively.

EARTHQUAKES NOTES

TEAM SPECIFIC

Decision Day

San Jose are now 13-15-5 and eighth in the Western Conference. The Quakes aim to clinch a playoff berth in Sunday's clash with the Portland Timbers. San Jose can lock in their spot in the 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs with a win over Portland. A draw would also see the Quakes through if FC Dallas fall to Sporting Kansas City and Colorado doesn't win by 2+ goals.

VS. NEXT OPPONENT

Looking Back

The Quakes recorded a 3-0 shutout victory in a home match against the Portland Timbers back in April. Midfielders Cristian Espinoza and Shea Salinas and forward Danny Hoesen each tallied a goal. Seventy seconds between the Quakes' second goal in the 33rd minute and third goal in the 34th minute set a new record for fastest consecutive goals in club history.

Road Trip

San Jose can earn their first road victory against the Portland Timbers. The Quakes hold a record of 0-8-3 when facing the Timbers in Portland.

Changes Needed

The Quakes will need to make changes in their Starting XI, as they will be without defender Tommy Thompson. Thompson will serve a single-match suspension after being sent off in Sunday's match vs. Seattle.

Welcome Back

Midfielder Judson will be available for selection after serving a single-match suspension on Sunday stemming from yellow card accumulation.

RENO 1868 FC UPDATE

Reno 1868 FC fell 2-1 to Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday evening at Greater Nevada Field. Forward Danny Musovski tallied his eighth goal of September and 11th in 2019 to give 1868 FC the lead in the 29th minute. Midfielder Seth Casiple was credited with the assist on Musovski's goal, extending his single-season career high to six.

Real Monarchs SLC tallied a goal in the 41st minute to bring the match level at one apiece. Both sides exchanged shots in the second half, but 1868 FC were unable to respond when SLC netted their breakthrough goal in the 83rd minute.

Quakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski and midfielders Siad Haji and Eric Calvillo all featured in the Starting XI for Reno.

1868 FC will host El Paso Locomotive FC in their final regular-season match at Greater Nevada Field on Saturday, Oct. 5. Reno will host a free pre-match Oktoberfest Celebration that features a beer stein giveaway for the first 1,000 fans. Saturday's match is set for 5:45 p.m. PT.
