San Jose Earthquakes News Release


The San Jose Earthquakes fell to Sporting Kansas City 3-1 on Saturday night at PayPal Park. The Earthquakes will now travel to Carson, Calif. to face the LA Galaxy in the first rivalry clash of the season this Saturday, May 29. The match kicks off from Dignity Health Sports Park at 4:00 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on UniMás, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.

Last week, the club announced that the California Clasico against the LA Galaxy on June 26 has been moved from Stanford Stadium to PayPal Park in San Jose. The match will be the team's first without any attendance restrictions since March 7, 2020.

Where Things Stand

The Earthquakes now hold a 3-4-0 record (9 pts.) during the 2021 MLS regular season and are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference.

Que Golazo

Midfielder Chofis scored his second goal of the season and of his MLS career. His goal has been nominated for MLS' Goal of the Week for Week 7. Additionally, both of his goals this season have come within the first five minutes of a match.

Helping The Cause

Midfielder Cristian Espinoza tallied his second assist of the season and 24th of his MLS career.

Another Milestone

Forward Chris Wondolowski made his 350th Earthquakes appearance, becoming the first player in club history to reach that milestone.

NEXT GAME VS. LA GALAXY (5/29)

Overall Record

Saturday's match will mark the 75th regular season meeting between the San Jose Earthquakes and the LA Galaxy. The Quakes hold a 26-32-16 overall record in regular season fixtures against the SoCal side.

The Difference

The LA Galaxy are just three points ahead of the Earthquakes (4-2-0; 12 pts.) and currently sit in third place in the Western Conference.

Unbeaten Run

The Earthquakes have outscored the LA Galaxy 6-1 during their active three-match unbeaten run (2-0-1) that dates back to Sept. 13, 2020.

Last Six

San Jose were defeated just once in their last six regular season matches against LA (4-1-1). The Quakes earned a 4-0 victory on the road in their last regular season meeting (10/14/2020).

San Jose Legends

Midfielder Shea Salinas could make his 300th appearance for the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. Tommy Thompson could also make his 150th appearance for the club on Saturday.

Looking to Rebound

Both teams will face each other on Saturday after suffering losses in their last matches. The Earthquakes fell to Sporting KC 3-1, while the LA Galaxy suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Portland Timbers.

International Duty

San Jose will take the field on Saturday without midfielder Jackson Yueill who is on international duty with the United States Men's National Team in preparation for the Concacaf Nations League Final Four.
