San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team has signed forward Cam Weaver to a multi-year contract. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. He will be added to the official roster upon receipt of his ITC.
Weaver, 25, is a target forward who played for FK Haugesund of the Norwegian Adeccoligaen, the first division in Norway, the past two seasons. In 2008 he scored 11 goals in all competitions, nine in league play and two in the Norwegian Cup. In his last match in Norway on October 25, 2008 Weaver scored two goals in a 4-2 win against Sandnes Ulf.
"We have been looking for a target forward and Cam certainly fills that position with his height and strength," said General Manager of Soccer Operations John Doyle. "He had a great year for the Sounders in 2006 and has been productive in Norway. He should be a good addition to our team as we continue to strengthen our attack."
He began his professional career with the Seattle Sounders of the United Soccer League First Division, scoring 18 goals in 27 appearances for the club. That total tied him for the league lead in 2006. He was named Rookie of the Year for his efforts.
Weaver grew up in Washington, and played his college soccer at Skagit Valley College and then transferred to Seattle University. In 2004, his first year at Seattle University, Weaver helped the Redhawks finish the year unbeaten at 22-0-1 to win the Division II national championship. For his career, he scored 17 goals for Seattle University and was named first-team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference in 2005. He led the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists as a senior.
