SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes will host the New York Red Bulls in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play-in match on Wednesday, April 29 at Buck Shaw Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT. The winner of the game will face another, yet to be determined, MLS team later this year to earn a spot in the Open Cup tournament.

Season ticket holders should use their Bonus Game "A" ticket for the match. For non-season ticket holders, tickets for the match go on sale on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. PT. Tickets range from $20-$60 and can be purchased by calling (800) 225-2277 or by logging on to sjearthquakes.com.

The Earthquakes will be competing in an Open Cup play-in match for the second straight season. In 2008, San Jose traveled to Salt Lake City to play Real Salt Lake on April 30. RSL earned a 4-0 win in a driving snowstorm at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

The top six Major League Soccer teams from 2008 qualified for the Open Cup, while the Earthquakes and the other seven American teams in MLS are forced to go through qualifying to reach the tournament.

The Earthquakes have participated in the U.S. Open Cup eight times in their history, posting a 10-8 overall record. The team reached the quarterfinals seven times and advanced to the semifinals for the first time in team history in 2004. In their last appearance in the tournament in 2005, the Quakes beat the Portland Timbers (USL-1) in the Round of 16, before losing to the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

Season tickets are on sale now for the 2009 Earthquakes season. The season-ticket package consists of 17 games, 15 regular season matches and two bonus matches. Prices begin at $306 and all packages offer significant savings off the regular price. Season ticket holders will also receive the following benefits: invitations to private Season Ticket Holder events, ability to purchase a season parking pass; Darren Huckerby Bobblehead and first priority for playoff tickets and all international games, along with a number of other benefits. To purchase season tickets, call 408-556-7700 or log on to sjearthquakes.com.
