March 30, 2005 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE (Wednesday, March 30, 2005) - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today the club's television schedule for the 2005 Major League Soccer season. For the seventh straight season, Fox Sports Net will be the home of Earthquakes soccer in the Bay Area, as the Quakes will broadcast seven road games on the station. In addition, the Quakes will have four games broadcast on ESPN2, four more aired in high definition on HDNet and 13 games on the MLS Direct Kick package. In all, 26 Quakes games will be available on television in 2005.
The Quakes also announced that former Miami Fusion and D.C. United head coach Ray Hudson will join long-time Quakes play-by-play announcer John Shrader in the booth as the team's color analyst on Fox Sports Net broadcasts.
"We're proud to partner with Fox Sports Net for the seventh straight season," Earthquakes President & General Manager Alexi Lalas said. "We would also like to welcome a true soccer original, Ray Hudson, back to the broadcast booth. We feel that he and John Shrader will form one of the most informative and entertaining announce teams in MLS."
The Quakes first game on Fox Sports Net will be the team's first road game on Saturday, April 16 against the Chicago Fire. The match will be aired on tape delay at 8:00 p.m. PT.
"We're looking forward to kicking off another Earthquakes season and congratulate them on their 10-year anniversary," said Ted Griggs, Vice President of Programming and Operations, FSN Bay Area. "The Earthquakes are consistently delivering an exciting and entertaining brand of soccer to their fans and we're confident that the team will make a strong run at a third MLS Cup Championship."
John Shrader has been the voice of the Earthquakes (Clash) either on radio or television since 1996 and has worked in Bay Area broadcasting for over 20 years, the last 14 at all-sports station KNBR 680 AM, where he anchors, hosts talk shows and covers the San Francisco 49ers. He has broadcast numerous events for Fox Sports Net, and spent time at two San Jose TV stations, KNTV and KICU. For nearly a decade Shrader was the voice of San Jose State athletics. In 2002, he established Soccer Radio US, to broadcast the sport on radio throughout the United States. Shrader broadcast the 2002 & 2003 Pepsi MLS All-Star Games and the 2002 & 2003 MLS Cup Finals.
Hudson has been a South Florida soccer legend for more than 20 years, and returns to the broadcast booth to be the Quakes color analyst following a successful four-year head coaching stint in MLS. Hudson previously served as the Miami Fusion's television color analyst from 1998-2000 and is known as one of the most quotable personalities in American sports. Hudson left the broadcast booth to take over as head coach of the Fusion on May 8, 2000 and led them to the best regular season record in MLS and to the semifinals of the 2001 MLS Cup. Hudson took over as head coach of D.C. United on January 8, 2002, compiling a 19-25 record over two seasons. Hudson brings a wealth of experience to the broadcast booth, as the Newcastle, England native was a five-time NASL All-Star with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers from 1977-1984. He also does television work for GOLTV.
Additional television broadcasts may be added in July, August, September and October based on availability.
