
Early Surge Leads Mustangs over Blowfish

Martinsville, VA - The Martinsville Mustangs scored eight runs in the game's first two innings to lead them to a 10-5 victory over the Lexington County Blowfish on Friday night.

Right from the start, Martinsville was relentless in its attack. They tallied eight runs on seven hits. The bottom of the first inning saw eight Mustang batters step to home plate, and the bottom of the second featured nine more.
The Blowfish showed a tremendous offensive push starting in the top of the third inning. Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) led the inning off with a single. He would be brought in thanks to an RBI single from Connor Owings (Coastal Carolina).
The highlight of the night came courtesy of J.D. Crowe (Francis Marion University). With the wind blowing from right to left across the outfield, Crowe launched a massive solo shot over the right field wall, his third home run of the season, to cut into the deficit.
Kyle Bailey (Anderson University), Williams and Crowe would score in a three-run seventh inning effort, highlighted by doubles from Crowe and Howard Joe (Mercer University).
Avery Greer (University of North Georgia) pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four batters. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth inning by striking out Christian Hollie looking.
The Blowfish will return home on Saturday night for "Frozen Night, Part 2" at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. The night will feature a celebration of the Disney box office smash Frozen, highlighted by a postgame fireworks spectacle.
