Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, NY (August 22, 2007) - In a rare spot start, Renegades pitcher Claudio Rodriguez was attacked early, surrendering seven runs in two innings as the Renegades fell to the Tri-City ValleyCats 7-2.

Designated hitter Brandon Barnes slugged his eighth homer of the season in the second inning for the ValleyCats. Barnes, batting .290 on the season, also doubled and finished the game with four runs batted in.

Tri-City All Stars Matt Cusick and Collin DeLome also contributed for the ValleyCats. Cusick led off the game with a double and later tripled in a run while DeLome led all players with three hits.

The ValleyCats offensive surge was mellowed by a brilliant performance from the Renegades bullpen. Reliever John Baird marveled, pitching four shutout innings while Travis Barnett struck out five in two innings. Noah Booth pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out one.

At the plate for the Renegades, Emeel Salem collected two hits and stole his twenty-sixth base of the season. Salem's swipe in tonight's game ties him for the New York-Penn League lead. Steve Vogt and Greg Sexton each drove in runs for the Renegades in the losing effort.

Hudson Valley (26-33) will try to draw even tomorrow night, as Alex Cobb pursues his fifth win of the season. Tri-City (20-38) will try to make it two in a row, sending Luis Pardo to the mound.
