Lowell Spinners News Release

With the 2007 season winding down, your Lowell Spinners find themselves in the thick of a playoff race after walk-off win homerun against division-rival Vermont at LeLacheur Park on Sunday night. With a 2-for-3 drubbing of Tri-City over the last two days, Lowell's within two games of the playoffs heading into tonight's six-game homestand.

Lowell's home schedule ends on August 31, so there's only so much time left to take in a game at the ballpark. Speaking of LeLacheur, the Spinners sell-out streak has continued this season, reaching 300 consecutive in our last home game and reaching our 2,000,000th Spinners fan the day before! But don't dispair because standing room tickets are always available.

Read on for the latest on our promo schedule, plus all the Spinners news that's fit to print. And don't forget our Pepsi Trivia, your chance to win an autographed Red Sox helmet of top prospect, Michael Bowden.

SPINNERS SHINING EVERYWHERE!

Spinners walk-off with win at Fenway

The Lowell Spinners walked off with a 2-1 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades at Saturday afternoon's second annual "Futures at Fenway" event at Fenway Park. With the game tied at one in the bottom of the ninth inning, Lowell's Jorge Jimenez capped off a 3-for-5 afternoon with a single just over the head of the Hudson Valley (22-29) right fielder to drive in Luis Segovia from second base for the win. Bret Lewis had tied the game, which Hudson Valley had been leading 1-0 since the top of the first, by knocking Jimenez in from second with a single in the eighth. Adam Mills got the win while Lowell's Jose Capellan pitched well as the starter.

Ventura, Navarro lead AL All-Stars to victory

A team record five members of your 2007 Lowell Spinners were named to the American League NY-Penn All-Star game, played August 14 in Hudson Valley, NY. Lowell's closer Felix Ventura picked up the win after tossing an inning of scoreless relief while shortstop Yamaico Navarro hit a bullet and stole a base to lead off the American League's eighth inning comeback rally. Ty Weeden caught three solid innings of the game, while All-Star selections Mike Jones (promoted to Greenville) and Ryan Kalish (season-ending injury) did not play in the Tuesday, August 14 contest at Hudson Valley, NY. Congratulations to the victorious American League squad and to all of the NYPL All-Stars!

Buchholz, Moss make MLB Debuts

Two more former Spinners made their Major League debuts this month. 2003 Spinner Brandon Moss made his debut August 6 in Anaheim, going 0-for-2 with a walk.

2005 Spinner Clay Buchholz became the third former Spinner this month and fifth this season to make his big league debut when he hurled six strong innings to get the win against the Angels Friday, August 17. Buchholz was returned to Pawtucket after the game, but don't be suprised to see him back in Boston come September.

Congratulations Brandon and Clay!
