PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Palm Beach's Andrew Sohn hit a two-run homer that made the difference in a 3-1 win for the Cardinals over the St. Lucie Mets on Friday at Tradition Field.
The homer came with two outs and was just the second homer of the year for Palm Beach. It put the Cardinals up 3-0.
The Mets cut the deficit to 3-1 in the seventh when Kevin Taylor reached second base on an error and was driven in by Wuilmer Becerra's two-out single.
The Mets tried to rally in the eighth and ninth but hit into double plays in both innings.
Matt Pearce retired the first 14 batters he faced. He earned the win after limiting the Mets to six hits and no earned runs in 6.2 innings.
Kevin Herget got the final four outs to record his league-leading fifth save.
Mets starter Ricky Knapp pitched 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs.
The Mets lost consecutive games for the second time this season.
Next Up: The Mets (13-9, T-1st) and Cardinals (13-9, T-1st) play on Saturday at Tradition Field. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
