Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - Yency Almonte pitched the Modesto Nuts to a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Giants on Monday night at John Thurman Field.
After facing two hitters, Almonte (W, 3-3) allowed the Giants (20-15) to score first on a RBI double by Steven Duggar. That would be all the Giants would get against the Nuts' (15-21) starter who worked 7.2 innings while striking out seven and allowing just four hits.
The Nuts took the lead for good in the second in an inning extended on an error behind Giants starter Jason Forjet (L, 4-2). Luis Jean cracked a RBI single. Omar Carriszzales followed with a RBI single of his own to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.
Forjet overall threw well over seven-plus innings. He allowed just two earned runs while striking out five and walking none.
Jerry Vasto (S, 6/7) stayed dominant working a perfect ninth to close out the Nuts' victory.
The Nuts open a fresh three-game set with the Visalia Rawhide starting at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online.
