WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild scored twofirst-period goals Friday en route to a 3-1 victory over the Fresno Monsters atthe Town Toyota Center.
The Wild wasted little time getting on track Friday and helda 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Defenseman Dillon Eichstadt (Bemidji, Minn.) lit the first lamp of the contestwith 7:29 left in the first period when he scored on a one-timer from the pointon a feed from David Powlowski (Rochester,N.Y.). Lance Carney (White BearLake, Minn.) earned the second assist on the sequence.
Jono Davis (LaVerne, Calif.) gave Wenatchee a 2-0 lead 82 seconds after Eichstadt's goal. Afterreceiving a drop pass from BrianWilliams (San Diego, Calif.), Davis scored his team-leading 16thgoal of the season from the bottom of the far faceoff circle with a quickfar-side shot. Jacob Barber (DardennePrairie, Mo.) also assisted.
The Monsters cut the Wild lead in half 87 seconds into thesecond frame when Mitchell Snyder scored during a power play from Trevor Huschand Daniel Rosse. Snyder's goal turned out to be the only score the Monsterswould generate.
Chris Kerr(Penticton, British Columbia) tacked on an unassisted empty-netter for the Wildwith less than a second remaining in regulation to close out scoring.
Wild netminder RobertNichols (Dallas, Texas) made 16 saves on 17 shots to earn his 11thwin of the season. The Wild peppered Fresno goalie Tomas Sholl with 37 shots,35 of which he turned aside.
The Monsters scored one power-play goal on four chanceswhile the Wild went 0-for-5 on their man-advantage chances.
The Wild (15-3-1) will try to sweep the Monsters Saturday.Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
