Early Errors Doom Thunder

The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (22-21) won their third straight game by defeating the Texas Thunder (14-29) 2-1 Saturday night at Harlingen field.

Starting pitcher Ray Hanson (5-3) cruised through the Thunders line up tossing six and two third innings of work, striking out seven and allowing only one run.

Hanson is credited with his fifth win of the year tying teammate Brett Kennedy for the team lead.

In the top of the first inning Jorge Bishop led the game off with a homerun giving the Thunder an early 1-0 lead.

The leadoff homerun was the only run allowed by the Wings pitching staff.

RGV took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Albert Carpen reached first on an error from second basemen Jacinto Cipriota.

Roberto Ramirez then came to the plate and reached on an error from Adam Humes advancing Carpen to second.

Goose Kallunki scored Carpen and Ramirez on a throwing error from third to first giving the Wings a 2-1 lead, Eric Sheridan (0-1) was charged with the loss throwing eight innings of work scattering just three hits.

The win improves the Wings to 22-21 on the year as they look to sweep the series Sunday at Harlingen field.

AJ Smouse takes the mound for the WhiteWings first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
