ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana - The Edinburg Roadrunners used a two run ninth inning to rally past the Alexandria Aces by a score of 3-2 at Bringhurst Field on Saturday night.
The Roadrunners (20-23) got on the board in the second inning when Tylor Prudhomme reached on a single with one out, and advanced to second on a wild pitch then reached third base on a Ryde Rodriguez single.
Then Carlton Salters would drive in Prudhomme on a fielder's choice to make 1-0 in favor of the Roadrunners.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Aces (23-20) responded in the fifth inning when Doug Freeman hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.
After the homerun by Freeman, it became a pitchers dual and battle of the bullpens as the Roadrunners would a pair of runs in the ninth inning when Trevor Whyte and Dan Coury reached base to start the rally.
After a fielder's choice moved the runners, a wild pitch allowed Whyte to score to make it a 2-1 game. Then Salters delivered his second RBI of the game when hit a single which plated Coury to make it 3-1 in favor of Edinburg.
Alexandria would score on a bases loaded walk which made it a 3-2 game but would be as close as the Aces would get.
Leo Madrid (2-1) would earn the win for the Roadrunners throwing a scoreless inning, while Gabe Grammer (1-4) took the loss throwing an inning while giving up two earned runs. Damian Seguen would earn his fourth save of the season while tossing an inning and allowing an earned run.
The Roadrunners will play the series finale of the four game series against the Aces on Sunday night at Bringhurst Field with the first pitch at 6:05 pm.
The next Roadrunners home game will be on Tuesday, July 9th, when they host the McAllen Thunder for a four game series.
