Colts Fall to Cats Again, 5-1

Fort Worth, Texas --- Fort Worth starting pitcher Cole Stephens held the San Angelo Colts scoreless for seven innings, and led the Cats to a 5-1 win Saturday night at LaGrave Field.

Stephens (2-2) gave up a run on just four hits and struck out a game-high six batters in eight innings for the win. He forced 12 ground ball outs, and retired 10 Colts in a row from the fifth all the way into the eighth.

The Cats' offense scored a run in five different innings. They took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by centerfielder Cody Bishop. The double scored left fielder Cameron Monger, who led the inning off with an infield single. Monger scored all the way from first base.

Fort Worth then scored a run apiece in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. First baseman David Bergin hit an RBI single in the third, and then crushed a one-out, solo home run in the seventh. It was his league-best eighth homer.

Colts' starter Alex Bates (3-5) took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on 10 hits in six innings. San Angelo's only run of the game came after Bates was pulled.

Down 5-0 in the eighth inning, second baseman Jon Dziomba hit an RBI single that scored shortstop Danny Hernandez from third base. Hernandez reached base on a dropped third strike.

Cats' reliever Wes Alsup then came in and pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the Colts.

The win improves Fort Worth to 28-15, while the loss drops San Angelo to 22-21. This series concludes Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 5:50 p.m.

The Colts return home to begin a 12-game home stand on Tuesday, July 9 with game one of a four-game series against the Cats. It will be a $2 Tuesday, sponsored by Budweiser.
