Glens Falls Dragons News Release

Glens Falls: Late Inning heroics by both teams forced the game to extras but it was the Eagles' heroes that had the last laugh as the Glens Falls Golden Eagles defeated the Elmira Pioneers 5-4 in 10 innings.

Colton Montgomery (Georgia College) came to the plate in the bottom of the 10th with no out and runners at 1st and second and delivered the game winning single up the middle off of Matt Horton (Cornell) who was in his second inning of work. Horton finished with 1+ innings pitched while giving up 4 hits, 3 runs and 2 earned.

Tyler Ehlers (Colorado Mesa) got the win for the Eagles as he threw 3 innings of 1 hit ball, allowing 2 runs but none earned. Ehlers came on in the 8th inning and made quick work of Pioneers batters but they had their vengeance in the 9th when they scored 2 unearned runs off the big lefty. Taylor Hillson (Mansfield) led off the inning with an easy comebacker that Ehlers fielded but promptly threw into right field and Hillson would stop at 3rd. Zac Bellinger drove him in with a double to right and was later driven in on a sac fly to left.

The Eagles answered back in the bottom of the 9th off of Horton thanks to a leadoff walk to John Lynn (Wagner) and a double by Nick Bernardo (Maine) which placed runners at second and third with no out. Horton would get a pinch hitter to strike out looking before allowing an RBI groundout to Sam Fontanez (Ulster CC). With 2 outs, Horton walked the next batter Mark Powell (Bucknell) who then stole second. While Powell stole second the catcher, Jordan Taylor (Radford) tried to pick Bernardo off of third and the throw skipped into left field allowing the tying run to score.

The Eagles were led offensively by Brian Fay (Siena) who went 2 for 5 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Mark Powell and Nick Bernardo would both go 2 for 4 with Bernardo scoring a run.

Elmira was led by the bat of Zac Bellinger who was 3 for 4 at the dish with an RBI and a run scored. Jason Patnick (Manhattan) added 2 RBI on a 1 for 3 night at the plate.

Glens Falls and Elmira will play again tomorrow, Thursday July 10th at 7pm in Glens Falls.
