Diamond Dawgs hit four home runs, blast Adirondack, 9-3

The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs are only sending one player to next Tuesday's Home Run Derby in Elmira: Zach Collett (Westbrook, Maine/New Haven).

However, Mohawk Valley (17-8) seemingly had their own intersquad Home Run Derby in preparation for it, as they hit four home runs over the course of Wednesday night's game, decimating the Adirondack Trail Blazers, 9-3.

However, Adirondack (11-18) would get on the board first, as Mohawk Valley starter Mike DeCarlo (Wynantskill, NY/Herkimer College) would load up the bases with two singles and a walk before even recording an out. Alex Tuccio (Ridgefield, CT/Siena) would score the game's first run, scoring Mike Carter (Bloomfield, NJ/Rutgers) on a sacrifice fly.

Then, Trey Stover (Lock Haven, PA/Hartford) would start the fireworks with a solo home run on only the second pitch of the game for the Diamond Dawgs.

There was a scary moment in the fourth inning, as Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY/Sacred Heart) was hit in the head by a wild pitch by Trail Blazer starter Chas Parsons (Holland Patent, NY/Mansfield). However, Sullivan shook it off and walked off to first. He would score two batters later as Greg Fazio (Fair Hills, NJ/Rider) would get into the home-run festivities with a shot to left field.

The Diamond Dawgs broke the game open in the seventh inning, as back to back home runs by Derby participant Collett (a three-run home run to left) and Gus Craig (Eugene, Oregon/Columbia) sent one to the left-center bleachers to extend the lead to 9-1.

The Trail Blazers tried to come back, scoring runs in the 8th and 9th innings to reduce the lead back to six, before Diamond Dawg closer Anthony Pastrana (Queens, NY/Dominican- NY) closed the door for good.

DeCarlo racked up six strikeouts against only one walk in six solid innings of play to get the win for Mohawk Valley. Parsons was slightly less stellar, giving up five runs and picking up the loss, dropping his record to 0-2.

With the win, the Diamond Dawgs extend their winning streak to two games, while extending the Trail Blazers' slide to three games.

The Diamond Dawgs will try to extend their winning streak on Thursday as they head off to Colburn Park to face the Newark Pilots. The Trail Blazers will head back to the Robert Smith Sports Complex to try and end the slide at three as they will face the Albany Dutchmen.
