Eagles signing is a hit

WINDSOR, CO- The defending Central Hockey League Champion Colorado Eagles announced their seventh signing for the upcoming 2005-06 season. Eagles forward and all-time penalty minutes leader Fraser Filipic agreed to terms on a contract that will keep him in a Colorado uniform for the third consecutive season. He is the sixth player off the Eagles original roster to return for the 2005-06 season.

Entering his third professional season (all with Colorado), the 5'10", 185-pound forward from the small town of Thorsby, Alberta, just outside of Edmonton, has become the fan favorite in the Northern Colorado area. Last season, Filipic had his most productive as a pro setting career highs in games played (40), goals (5), assists (10), plus/minus (+17), and points (15). He also became the all-time penalty minute leader in the Eagles' short history with 268 minutes, while finishing third on the team in that department in 2004-05.

"Fraser was the most improved Eagles player from year one to year two," said the Vice President and Head Coach of the Eagles Chris Stewart. "I look for him to make a bigger impact offensively in the upcoming season, and I believe he will continue to improve."

Filipic shined when the light was the brightest. Last season in the President's Cup Playoffs he played in 10 of the 16 games tallying four points (2-2-4) and adding 43 penalty minutes while finishing a plus-2. His biggest game was Game Two of the CHL finals against the Laredo Bucks where Filipic netted his first ever professional two-goal game, including the game winner in a 4-1 victory to give the Eagles a commanding 2-0 series lead.

Before turning pro, Filipic started his junior career in the AJHL playing two seasons with the Lloydminister Blazers from 1998-2000. In 109 games, he scored 20 goals, added 52 points and racked up a leviathan total of 729 penalty minutes. He also tallied four goals and nine points in nine playoff games in his second year in Lloydminister. During the 2000-01 season, he joined the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and enjoyed his finest junior season notching a career high with 56 points in 58 games, including 451 penalty minutes. Filipic turned pro after signing with the Eagles in 2003. He scored his first professional goal on December 26, 2003 in a 5-2 victory over Corpus Christi. His rookie season ended with him netting three goals, adding four assists and finishing second on the team in PIM's with 147. Filipic also finished third in the CHL for rookies with 21 majors in 2003-04.

"More than anything I love playing in front of these great fans in Northern Colorado," said Filipic after reaching an agreement with the Eagles. "I believe we are putting the pieces in place to win again."
