Welcome to Eagles' Nest Notes, the weekly Spirit update and preview. The Spirit enter the week with a record of 26-15-0-2 and 54 points. Saginaw is in third place in the OHL West Division; the Plymouth Whalers are in first with 61 points and the Sarnia Sting are in second with 57 points. The Spirit head on the road this weekend, with games against the Sudbury Wolves, the Barrie Colts and the Owen Sound Attack.

Defenseman Patrick McNeill is tied for 4th in insurance goal scoring (4ig) and is ranked 5th in d-man scoring with 40 points (16g 24a).
Forward Jan Mursak is tied for 4th in plus/minus scoring (plus-21), ranked 4th in rookie scoring with 51 points (16g 35a) and 9th in assists scoring.
Forward Tomas Zaborsky is ranked 17th in rookie scoring with 24 points (8g 16a).
Forward Tyler Haskins (9g 42a) is ranked 8th in assists scoring.
Forward Jack Combs (8g 17a) is tied for 12th in game winning goal scoring (4gw).
Forward Tom Pyatt (23g 26a) is tied for 2nd in short handed goal scoring (4sh), is tied for 3rd in game winning goal scoring (6gw) and is tied for 4th in plus/minus with a plus-21.
Goaltender Ryan Daniels (OTT 06) is ranked 4th in total wins (23w), 10th in save percentage (0.903 %) and is 11th in goals against average (3.21gaa).
Spirit Leader Boards
Forwards Jan Mursak and Tyler Haskins are tied for total scoring with 51 points.
Forwards Tom Pyatt and Ryan McDonough are tied for goal scoring with 23 goals.
Forward Tyler Haskins is leading the team in assists scoring with 42 assists.

The Spirit beat the 20-17-2-4 Wolves in their last contest, 2-1 on October 8th. Since 2002 the Spirit have a record of 5-4-0-0 against the Wolves overall and a record of 1-3-0-0 when playing in Sudbury. The Wolves are in 3rd place in the OHL Central Division with 46 points.
Sudbury was very active during the final days leading up to the trade deadline. The Wolves sent goalie Kevin Beech to the Erie Otters and traded with Sarnia for goaltender Sebastian Dahm. Sudbury also picked up standout overager Justin Donati from the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. Center Nick Foligno (19g 42a) is leading the Wolves in scoring production with 61 points. Center Kevin Baker (19g 21a) and winger Patrik Lusnak (14g 18a) have also been big contributors on the scoreboard. D-man Jonathan D-Aversa (10g 33a) is chipping in from the blue line with 43 points, and is holding down the defense with a plus-13. Team captain Marc Staal has recently returned from his gold medal run at the World Juniors Championship.

The Barrie Colts are sitting in first place in the OHL Eastern Conference with 63 points and a record of 31-11-0-1. Barrie beat Saginaw in their last contest, 4-2 on November 3rd. In the last five years the Spirit have a record of 1-6-2-0 against the Colts. The Spirit have yet to beat the Colts when playing in Barrie.
The Colts recently acquired D-man Mike Weber and forward Corey McGillis from the Windsor Spitfires. They join a team that boasts one of the highest scoring offenses in the league. Standout Bryan Little has notched 66 points in 33 games this season (27g 39a), while wingers Hunter Tremblay (17g 40a) and Richard Clune (23g 27a) have combined for over a hundred points. Goalie Andrew Perugini has been a constant presence on the OHL leader boards, with a 0.921 save percentage and 28 wins.
The Owen Sound Attack Sunday, January 21st at 2:00 PM Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, Owen Sound

The Attack enter the week in 4th place in the OHL Midwest Division with 48 points and a record of 21-17-3-3. Saginaw has beaten Owen Sound in their first three match-ups this season with Sunday's game finishing out the season series. Since 2002 the Spirit have an overall record of 6-12-1-0 against the Attack and a record of 2-6-1-0 when playing in Owen Sound.
The Attack have made some major changes to their roster since the last time they faced the Spirit. In early December they picked up highly toted netminder Anthony Guadagnolo from the Windsor Spitfires. The Attack made another major move at trade deadline, sending Thomas Stajan, Dalyn Flatt, 4 OHL picks and 2 Import Draft picks to Brampton for Howie Martin and Phil Oreskovic. Bobby Ryan (26g 42a), Scott Tregunna (20g 36a) and Trevor Lewis (19g 28a) lead the Attack's offense, with support from the blue line in the form of d-man Bobby Sanguinetti (20g 18a). D-man Oreskovic, who accumulated 113 PIM with the Battalion this season, will join the Attack's PIM leader Theo Peckham (110 PIM) to form one of the toughest defenses in the league.
