Welcome to Eagles' Nest Notes, the weekly Spirit update and preview. The Spirit start off the week with 39 points, a record of 19-7-0-1 and 1st place in the OHL West Division. The team is tied for first place in the Western Conference and the OHL with the London Knights, who the Spirit will play at home on Saturday, December 2nd at 7:11 PM. Prior to that the Spirit face off at home against the Kitchener Rangers Thursday night at 7:11 PM, then play the Whalers in Plymouth on Friday night at 7:05 PM

Assists Streak Watch

Spirit forward Tyler Haskins has had at least one assist in 11 consecutive games since the November 3rd game against the Barrie Colts. Haskins' streak beats the team record of ten games previously held by Spirit forward Ryan McDonough.

Starting on Fire

Newly acquired forward Ryan O'Marra (NYI 05) has notched 2 goals in his first 3 games in Spirit uniform. The Spirit acquired O'Marra from the Erie Otters in a trade last week.

OHL Top 10 Leader Boards

Forward Jan Mursak (DET 06) is ranked 1st in plus/minus, 3rd in rookie scoring, 5th in assists scoring, and 9th in overall scoring (13G-30A-43PTS, +23).

Forward Tyler Haskins (7G-32A-39PTS) is currently ranked 3rd in assists scoring.

Tom Pyatt (NYR 05) is ranked 1st in game winning goal scoring, 2nd in plus/minus and 8th in goal scoring (20G-18A-38PTS, +22).

Netminder Ryan Daniels (OTT 06) is ranked 1st in total wins (18), 8th in goals against average (3.20) and 9th in both save percentage (0.904) and shootouts (2 wins and 1 loss)

Kitchener enters the week with a record of 15-9-0-2, 32 points and 2nd place in the OHL Midwest Division. Matt Halishchuk (21G-11A-32PTS), Justin Azevedo (9G-22A-31PTS) and Detroit Red Wings pick Jakub Kindl (5G-22A-27PTS) have lead the Rangers in scoring production, although Azevedo is out indefinitely with an ankle injury (Re: Waterloo Record, 11/25/06). The team is captained by former Spirit Jean-Michel Risk, who has notched 8 goals and 6 assists so far this season. Rookie goalie John Murray came to the Rangers as a free agent from the USHL and has started 19 games, carrying a 0.912 save percentage. Murray is ranked 2nd in the OHL in goals against average (2.61). This will be the first match up between the Spirit and the Rangers this season, with the Spirit having a record of 3-9-2-0 against the Rangers since 2002.

Friday, Dec. 1 at 7:05 PM At the Plymouth Whalers

Plymouth has 29 points and a record of 14-10-1-0 as they look to start their weekend against the Spirit on Friday. Paving the way for the Whalers' scoring production is Chicago Blackhawks prospect Evan Brophey (8G-29A-37Pts), Dallas Stars pick James Neal (15G-16A-31Pts), and Columbus Blue Jacket draftee Tom Sestito (13G-10A-23PTS). Los Angeles Kings prospect Ryan McGinnis (+7) and Steve Ward (+3) steady the defense while the net is anchored by Jeremy Smith (0.919 save percentage in 14 games) and Michal Neuvirth (0.904 save percentage in 14 games). The Spirit have a record of 1-2-0-0 against the Whalers this season and a record of 8-22-3-0 overall since 2002.

The Spirit defeated the Knights 4-3 on November 24th in a exhilarating shoot out. London has a lot of offensive scoring with five players notching more than 30 points since the start of the season -- Sam Gagner (14G-43A-57PTS), Patrick Kane (20G-34A-54PTS), Montreal Canadians pick Sergei Kostitsyn (13G-24A-37PTS), Robbie Drummond (11G-24A-35PTS), and Chicago Blackhawks pick Tom Meckler (16G-14A-30PTS). The Knights' defense can count on Scott Aarssen (12A-12PTS, +16) and Ryan Martinelli (2G-1A-3PTS, +17) to protect the London zone, while Columbus Blue Jackets' pick Steve Mason (0.924 save percentage in 24 games played) will backstop the Knights in net. The Spirit have a record of 1-1-0-0 against the Knights this season and a record of 2-16-0-0 since 2002.
