Saginaw Spirit News Release
Welcome to Eagles' Nest Notes, the weekly Spirit update and preview. Saginaw enters its fifth season on the wings of its most successful season in team history, and most successful season in the past ten years of franchise history.
The year got off to a good start with the successful completion of the Spirit Training Camp. To conclude the camp, the Spirit held its annual Blue/White Game at the Bay County Civic Arena. Team White won the game 5-3, with Patrick Asselin, Jeff Campbell, Jack Combs, Scott Fletcher, Jan Mursak, Aaron Pierce, Jordan Patton and Kevin Tuckey scoring. The Spirit now head into pre-season with a roster of 27 players -- 15 Forwards, 9 Defensemen, and 3 Goalies. 16 players have been carried over from the 2005-2006 squad. The Spirit have also picked up a new farm team! The Leamington Flyers Jr. B Hockey Club of the Western Ontario Hockey League has been named the new affiliate team for the Saginaw Spirit Hockey Club. The Flyers main objective is to prepare players for a higher level of hockey both on and off the ice. As an affiliate team, the Spirit will have the opportunity to send its prospects to Leamington so that they may continue to develop. Three prospects, Ryan Federman, Dave Roberts and Mike Souligny, represented the Flyers at Saginaw's 2006 Training Camp and annual Blue/White Game. Spirit Defenseman Tommy Mannino is an alumni of the Flyers. Visit http://www.leamingtonflyers.com/ for more information.
The Saginaw Spirit Hockey Club is also pleased to announce the addition of Shawn Camp to the team's hockey staff. Camp joins the Spirit as an Assistant Coach and Assistant to the General Manager, joining General Manager and Head Coach Bob Mancini, Associate Coach Ian Herbers, and Assistant Coaches Bill Paige and Randy Wilson. Stated Mancini, "I am happy to add a coach of Shawn's caliber to our organization. He will be a great compliment to our staff". Terms of the contract were not disclosed, nor were any plans to re-organize the Spirit coaching staff. To learn more about Coach Camp, visit www.saginawspirit.com.
