Eagles Look to Even Series against Drakkar Tonight at Centre 200
April 30, 2024 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Cape Breton Eagles News Release
After a sweep of Chicoutimi in round two, fans in Sydney had to wait 16 days between home games as the Cape Breton Eagles opened their third round series against Baie-Comeau on the road. The wait was worth it for Eagles fans with a 2-1 victory last night in game three, but the wait won't be so long this time as the Eagles & Drakkar are back on the ice for game four this evening.
Having been held off the scoresheet in Baie-Comeau, Monday was a big night for Cam Squires as he scored both goals for the Eagles, his first two of the series. Nicolas Ruccia was excellent in the win, stopping 39 of 40 shots. Jules Boilard's goal at the 8:25 mark of the third period was the first goal scored against the Eagles at Centre 200 in the month of April, breaking a home shutout streak of 172:09. Ruccia had plenty of help in the closing minutes as Baie-Comeau pressed for the tying goal: the Eagles blocked eight shots in the final 85 seconds, including Antoine Roy blocking a shot with his face. (Despite losing blood & teeth, Roy is expected to play on Tuesday night.)
Thus far in the series, the home team has won every game, a trend the Eagles hope continues this evening. Additionally, last night brought to end a previously perfect Drakkar record as they'd won their first ten playoff games.
Here's what else you need to know about tonight's big game 4, in front of another sold out crowd at Centre 200!
