
Eagles Hang On in 2-1 Win over Wichita

WICHITA, KS- The Colorado Eagles did what only one other team had accomplished all season, beat the Wichita Thunder in regulation at the Kansas Coliseum. The Eagles finished their three-game series with the Thunder with a 2-1 victory getting goals from Scott Polaski and Greg Pankewicz who extended his point streak to 12 games. It was a battle of special teams again for the two teams as the Eagles finished 1-9 on the power play, and the Thunder 1-13. Eagles goaltender Jeff Blair stopped 36 of 37 shots for the Eagles in his second straight win against the Thunder. Wichita's Joe Blaznek scored his team's lone goal with 3:16 remaining in the game as the Thunder fell to 27-18-2 for 53 points, that is 16 points behind Northwest Division leading Colorado who are now 32-9-5 for 69 points.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period although there were 11 penalties called in the period. Wichita out shot the Eagles 16-9 but could not get the puck passed Blair.
Eagles rookie forward Scott Polaski broke the scoreless tie at the 6:09 mark of the second period in a scrum in front of the net. Lee Arnold assisted on the play for his first of the season along with Garrett Larson. The Eagles took the 1-0 lead into the third period.
Colorado took a two-goal lead on a power play goal from Greg Pankewicz extending his point streak to 12 games. The goal came at the 13:11 mark of the period and gave the Eagles an insurance goal, one that they would need. As always, the Thunder didn't let up and Joe Blaznek scored a power play goal with 3:16 left to go in the game. The Eagles closed out the game behind the excellent goaltending of Jeff Blair and won their second straight game against the Thunder.
