It was a case of too little too late for the Moncton Wildcats as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at the Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

Nick MacNeil got the Eagles' first goal at the 20 second mark of the opening period. Stephen Horyl scored an unassisted power-play marker to make it 2-0 for Cape Breton at 16:58.

The Eagles added to their lead in the middle period with Ashton Bernard scoring at 9:49.

The Wildcats took over in the final frame, Marek Hrivik scored at 7:09 from Randy Cameron and Mark Barberio. Hrivik got the Cats close with his second of the contest and 7th of the year from Brandon Gormley at 10:43, a power play goal.

Randy Cameron came within inches of sending the game into overtime when his shot missed the net with five seconds remaining.

The Wildcats out shot the Eagles 36-19, the Cats went 1 for 6 with the man advantage; Cape Breton was 1 for 3.

Hrivik was named the first star, Nick MacNeil of the Eagles was the second star and Luke Adam the third.

Next game for the Wildcats will be at home on Thursday night when they face Drummondville in a 7 o'clock start.
