Eagles Earn Two Awards at Spring Conference

WINDSOR, CO- The two-time Governors' Cup Champion Colorado Eagles took home two awards from the annual Central Hockey League Spring Conferences in Scottsdale, Arizona Saturday night. The team was awarded the Merchandise Franchise of the Year award and Ticket Sales Franchise of the Year for the third straight season.

Colorado's Merchandise Manager Katie George accepted the Eagles award for Merchandise Franchise of the Year. It marked the first such award for the Eagles after being nominated for it in 2005. The Merchandise Franchise of the Year award is presented annually to the CHL franchise which best exemplifies the quality of excellence in the field of team merchandise.

"This award is a reflection on the Eagles' fans," said George. "Their support is second to none and we look forward to another exciting season."

Colorado captured their third straight Ticket Sales Franchise of the Year award. The Eagles have soldout 109 consecutive games (including playoffs) at the Budweiser Events Center and broke the minor league hockey "AA" record for consecutive sellouts during the 2005-06 season. The Ticket Sales Franchise of the Year award is presented annually to the Central Hockey League ticketing department that demonstrates the highest level of efficiency, productivity and creativity over the course of the season.

"Again, this is proof that the Eagles have the best fans in the CHL," said Ticket Sales Account Executive Ben Peal. "We are thankful to have the fans of Northern Colorado and hopefully we can sellout many more games to come."

The Eagles were also nominated for several other awards. Director of Corporate Partnerships Gavin Riches was nominated for the Corporate Partnership Sales Executive of the Year. The team was nominated for the Game Operations Franchise of the Year as well as being nominated for the most prestigious award at the banquet, the Franchise of the Year. Colorado has been nominated for the Franchise of the Year award in all three seasons of the team's existence and took home the honor in 2005.

Former Eagles defenseman Matt Desrosiers was drafted by the Rocky Mountain Rage in the Expansion Draft on Saturday with the second pick. The Fort Erie, Ontario native played in 98 games for the Eagles in two seasons scoring 86 points on 28 goals and 58 assists. He is a veteran under CHL rules with 294 games played. Teams are allowed to have four veterans and Desrosiers was released by the Eagles for the 2006-07 season, although he has yet to sign with the Rage.

The back-to-back Governors' Cup Champion Colorado Eagles will begin their fourth season of play in October 2006. Colorado has been the winningest team in the Central Hockey League over the past three seasons compiling a 130-40-18 record, and has set the "AA" record for consecutive sellouts at 94 regular-season games and counting.
