Bucks Organization Nominated For Seven Awards

LAREDO, Texas - The 2006 CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks wrapped up the 2006 CHL Spring Conference on Saturday night in Scottsdale with a host of nominations for CHL year end awards. The Bucks were finalists in seven categories, including CHL Franchise of the Year, and captured one award. Joe Dominey, who has been the Bucks radio play-by-play announcer and Director of Media Relations for the past three seasons, was named 2006 CHL Broadcaster of the Year. Bucks owner Glenn Hart and coach Terry Ruskowski were honored at the banquet for awards the pair got during the season. Hart was recognized for winning the Rick Kozuback award and Ruskowski was recognized for being named the 2005-06 CHL Coach of the Year.

The Bucks were finalists in six other categories, which included Merchandising, Community Relations, Public Relations, Ticket Sales Franchise of the Year, and the CHL Leadership award.

The Bucks, Colorado Eagles and Youngstown Steelhounds were the finalists for Merchandising franchise of the year with the Eagles taking home the award. Last year the Bucks captured the award as the CHL's top merchandising team.

Hart was a finalist for the CHL leadership award along with fellow owners Brad Lund of the Oklahoma City Blazers and John Madden of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Madden took home the leadership award.

Along with Laredo, the Lubbock Cotton Kings and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees were the nominees for Community Relations franchise of the year. The Killer Bees took that award.

The Bucks, Eagles, and Killer Bees were the nominees for Ticket Sales franchise of the year with the Eagles taking home that prize.

The Mudbugs won the CHL Franchise of the Year award, edging out Laredo, Colorado and Oklahoma City. The Bucks were selected as the CHL Franchise of the Year in 2003, their expansion season.

The CHL led all of AA leagues in average attendance for the fifth consecutive year. The 2005-2006 season averaged 4,663 fans per game, which was the CHL's highest since 1994-1995.

The new CHL Divisional alignments and other rule changes, including playoff format and salary cap, will be announced tomorrow.
