
Eagles Come Back to Beat Rage 7-4

BROOMFIELD, Colo.- The Colorado Eagles defeated the Rocky Mountain Rage for the sixth consecutive time Saturday night 7-4 at the Broomfield Event Center. The Eagles played with just 12 skaters for a good portion of the game and Scott Polaski was forced to play defense, but that did not stop the league's top scoring team from putting up seven goals. Ryan Tobler scored twice, and Brad Williamson had three assists as the Eagles improved their record to 35-9-0 for 70 points. Marco Emond stopped 28 of 29 shots after he entered the game in the first period and won his 22nd game of the season. The Eagles are still atop the Northwest Division and will head to Amarillo for a game against the Gorillas on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. MST.
Dorian Anneck started the scoring for the Rage in the first period when he took a pass from Jordan Little and beat Eagles' goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo at the 3:29 mark. Trevor Weisgerber made it a 2-0 lead less than two minutes later when he came in through the left circle and wristed a shot into the net. He was assisted by Adam Loncan and Mark Wires. The Eagles answered on a five-on-three goal by Riley Nelson when he lifted a rebound over Rage goalender Trevor Cunning. Rocky Mountain quickly regained the two-goal lead on a goal by Bret DeCecco, a power play goal at the 15:47 mark of the period. Eagles goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo was pulled after the goal for Marco Emond. Colorado out shot the Rage 17-11 in the period however found themselves down two goals going into the intermission.
The second period was all Eagles as they scored four goals to take the lead. Fraser Filipic scored his second goal of the season on a backhand as he took a nice feed from Riley Nelson. Shortly after that, Scott Polaski tied the game at the 3:17 mark of the period on assists from Seth Leonard and Brad Williamson. The Eagles took their first lead of the game on a breakaway goal by Ryan Tobler as he beat Cunning stick side to make it a 4-3 Eagles lead. Tobler scored his second goal minutes later on a power play to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead. He was assisted by Ed McGrane and Brad Williamson. The Eagles scored four unanswered goals in the period and led 5-3.
Clay Plume made it a 5-4 game at the 5:56 mark of the third period, a power play goal on assists from Mark Wires and Bret DeCecco. That would be as close as the Rage would get. Steve Haddon tipped in a Jay Birnie shot to give the Eagles at 6-4 lead. It marked Haddon's third goal of the season. In the final minute of play, Rocky Mountain pulled their goaltender while the Eagles were on the power play, but it was Seth Leonard that capped the game with the Eagles 26th shorthanded goal of the season. They are now one shorthanded goal away from tying the Central Hockey League record of 27. Final Score: Eagles 7 - Rage 4.
