New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions picked up another divisional victory with a 5-1 win over Lubbock on Saturday night. The win moved the Scorpions three points ahead of idle Amarillo in the Southwest Division.
When the teams met last week, it took the Scorpions nearly the entire game to score on Kyle Stanton. Tonight was a different story as Josh Garbutt rocketed a shot past the Cotton Kings' goalie 7:30 into the contest. New Mexico would extend their lead to two later in the first with Kevin Harvey's second goal of the season.
The Cotton Kings didn't go quietly in the first. While shorthanded, Jimmy Callahan carried the puck into the Scorpions zone and found Simon Watson who cut the lead in half, with his 20th goal of the year.
Robertson Works In The Corner After a quiet second period and early third period, the Scorpions would add insurance goals in a hurry, scoring three goals in 4:27. Lance Herauf started by tucking in a goal, his 16th this season. Rob Guinn picked up his first goal since November 10th with a quick wrist shot from the high circles. To finish the scoring, Craig Macdonald scored and became the second Scorpion to reach the 20 goal plateau this season.
The Scorpions will be back on home ice for a lovely affair against the Odessa Jackalopes Wednesday night. Bring your favorite Valentine out to the Santa Ana Star Center for a Valentine's Day affair of hockey and love. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. and all ladies attending the game will receive a free rose.
Come see the young, tough and exciting New Mexico Scorpions at the Santa Ana Star Center. Flex plan tickets are still available for the remainder of the 2006-07 season. Fans can become a partial Scorpions season ticket holder by choosing as little as four games to attend the rest of the season by calling the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK [7825] or by visiting www.scorpionshockey.com.
