Eagles and Lady Eagles Host Second Doubleheader of 2014

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles and Lady Eagles host the second double header of the 2014 season this Saturday July 5th at Queens Sports Complex. The Lady Eagles will kick off the action at 5:30 against the Gulf Coast Texans, followed by the men's team at 8pm facing off against the Dayton Dutch Lions.

In the Lady Eagles' last match they faced off against the Carolina Elite Cobras. Heading into the match the teams had identical records (4-1-2) and were tied for first place in the Southeastern Conference of the USL W-League. Early on in the game the Lady Eagles got on the board because of a penalty kick taken by Leah Fortune after a Cobra was called for a handball inside the box. The Lady Eagles kept the 1-0 lead far into the second half, when in the 84th minute Carolina's India Trotter got a breakaway and beat Charlotte goalkeeper Robyn Jones evening up the score. Neither team could break the tie during stoppage time and the match closed in a 1-1 draw.

In the Gulf Coast Texans' last game they hosted the Atlanta Silverbacks and took a 3-2 victory. The Texans' three goals came from Florence Dadson, Natalie Gomex-Junco, and Dernelle Mascall. Dadson, a forward for the team, currently ranks second among USL W-league players for points leaders with 17 points coming from seven goals and three assists. The Gulf Coast Texans currently trail the Lady Eagles in the Southeastern conference standings by one point with 14 points total while the Lady Eagles have 15.

The Men's team will follow the Lady Eagles kicking off at 8pm against the Dayton Dutch Lions. In the Eagles last game they got a huge three points in a 1-0 victory over the Rochester Rhinos on the road. In the 52nd minute Gui Brandao got a header off of a shot by Wells Thompson that snuck inside the post past Rhinos goalkeeper and put the Eagles up 1-0. The goal was Brandao's first of the season and led the Eagles to hold onto the lead until the end of the game. Alec Kann also recorded his first shutout of the season making four saves throughout the match.

In Dayton's last game they hosted the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Wednesday, July 2nd. The Riverhounds escaped Dayton with a 2-1 victory thanks to two goals by Michael Green. Aaron Schoenfeld opened the scoring for the Dutch Lions in the 3rd minute. The hosts took a 1-0 lead to the halftime break before Michael Green scored in the 47th minute. Green added his brace in the 54th minute as the Riverhounds secured their second victory of the season.
