Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX - (Friday, February 2, 2007) - Houston Dynamo forward Dwayne De Rosario has been named Canadian Player of the Year for 2006, it was announced today by the Canadian Soccer Association.
This is the second-straight season in which De Rosario wins this prestigious award. His first compendium came for his contributions to the San Jose Earthquakes in 2005.
"It's an honor and a privilege to earn this award for two consecutive years", said De Rosario. "For me, however, the ultimate goal is not necessarily winning awards, but helping Canada get to its first World Cup. I will continue working tirelessly until we make that happen."
A native of Scarborough, Ontario, "De Ro" played a total of 30 games last season, totaling 11 goals (team best along with Brian Ching), and 5 assists. One of those goals, a 55-yard bomb against Chicago on August 30, was a finalist for the Sierra Mist Goal of the Year Award.
"His selection is well-deserved", said Dynamo Head Coach Dominic Kinnear. "I think he should be proud of the way he played last year. He is a very talented player that works hard and puts his team first in every game."
De Rosario, a two-time Honda MLS MVP Finalist and MVP of the 2006 Sierra Mist All-Star Game, will be on hand on Sunday, April 8, as the Dynamo start their title defense against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
