Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Tuesday, July 14, 2015) - Houston Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley has been added to the United States National Team roster by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann ahead of Saturday's CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal. Beasley will join the national team in Baltimore, Maryland today.
Beasley captained the United States to the Gold Cup title in 2013, his fourth Gold Cup championship (2002, 2005, 2007, 2013), and joins the Americans after they won Group A this year with two wins and a draw. The U.S. will meet the third place team from either Group B or C in Saturday's quarterfinal, held at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The game will be broadcast live on FOX and Univision.
Beasley has started all 19 games for the Dynamo this season and leads the club with 1,675 minutes played, 35 less than the maximum. The left back joined the Dynamo last July after starting four games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup to become the first American to play in four World Cups. Beasley, 33, has made 121 appearances for the U.S. (fifth most) and is tied for ninth in U.S. history with 17 goals and tied for ninth in assists with 13.
With an appearance for the U.S. in the Gold Cup, Beasley will extend his remarkable streak of consecutive years with an appearance with the national team to 15. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native has played in at least one game for U.S. national team every year from 2001-14. His resume also includes 11 career matches at the FIFA World Cup, tied for second-most in U.S. history.
Beasley was named to the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star team on Monday, his fourth MLS All-Star selection.
The Dynamo look to extend their unbeaten streak to three on Saturday with a visit to Real Salt Lake at 9 p.m. CT at Rio Tinto Stadium (TV: ROOT Sports SW). The Dynamo return to BBVA Compass Stadium to host the LA Galaxy on Saturday, July 25 at 8 p.m. CT.
