Montgomery Biscuits News Release
Montgomery, AL- The Biscuits (4-7) allowed 15 hits in an 11-3 loss to the Mobile Bay Bears (8-3) during the home opener at Riverwalk Stadium Sunday night.
After the Biscuits used six pitchers in the 4-3 extra inning victory on Saturday night against the Mississippi Braves, Montgomery was forced to use five pitchers Sunday night. Shane Dyer (1-1) was hit with the loss after surrendering three runs in only one inning. Third baseman, Greg Sexton, made his first career appearance on the mound. Sexton was the only Biscuits pitcher to not allow a run in the game after tossing two scoreless innings.
The Biscuits scored their first run in the 4th inning. Henry Wrigley led off the frame with a walk then moved to second base on a wild pitch from BayBears starter Trevor Bauer. David Wendt then sent a 2 out single into centerfield cutting the score to 3-1 BayBears.
Relief pitcher Jim Patterson and Hak-Ju Lee were the lone bright spots. Patterson tossed three and a third innings while allowing two runs in his first appearance as a Biscuit. Lee collected his first multi-hit game of the year going 2 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base. Kyeong Kang added a two-run home run in the 9th inning.
The BayBears offense was highlighted by a three-run home run from Alfredo Marte in the first inning and a two-run home run from Rauol Torrez in the 7th inning. Mobile scored multiple runs in four different innings.
Former 3rd overall pick, Trevor Bauer (3-0) earned the victory. The UCLA alum threw 5 innings with 5 walks, 2 strikeouts and allowed his first and only run of the season.
The Biscuits and BayBears will be in action again Monday night for a 7 pm start at Riverwalk Stadium.
