
Dwayne De Rosario Called up to Canadian National Team

San Jose, Calif. (May 7, 2002) - San Jose Earthquakes forward Dwayne De Rosario was named to the Canadian National Team roster by Canadian National Team Head Coach Holger Osieck for the team's friendly match on Wednesday, May 15 against Switzerland. The game will be played in St. Gallen, Switzerland and is set to kick off at 6:00 p.m. local time.
De Rosario, the 2001 MLS Cup MVP, will play for Canada for the first time since helping his country to a third-place finish at the 2002 Football Confederation Gold Cup in January and February. He played in all five games at the Gold Cup and scored the game-winning goal in the team's bronze medal game victory over Korea at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. on Saturday, February 2.
The 23-year old forward was a member of the Canadian National Team in May and June of 2001 for the FIFA Confederations Cup in Korea and Japan, and he also played on the 2000 Gold Cup Championship team. Overall, in his national team career, the young striker has made 14 appearances and scored one goal. He also played at the youth level for the U-17, U-20 and U-23 Canadian National Teams.
De Rosario will play for the Earthquakes this Saturday, May 11 against the MetroStars at Spartan Stadium at 7:00 p.m. PT. He will then leave to meet his Canadian teammates in Switzerland on Sunday, May 12 to prepare for the Wednesday match. After the game, he will rejoin the Earthquakes in Columbus in time for training on Friday, May 17 prior to the Earthquakes game on Saturday, May 18 against the Columbus Crew at 4:30 p.m. PT at Crew Stadium.
