Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
One night after the Eugene Emeralds scored seven first inning runs on their way to a big win, the Tri-City Dust Devils countered with a ten run second inning in a 12-3 win over the Emeralds Friday night at Gesa Stadium. Tri-City (11-12) took advantage of six walks by the Emeralds (14-9) and timely hitting in the second, which eventually proved to be the difference in the déjà vu type game.
Austin Allen had a double and three RBIs on the night. Nick Vilter had a hit and two RBIs and Mason Smith had two RBIs as well. All three recorded these numbers in the second inning. Jose Carlos Urena kept up his hot hitting with a single and a two-run home run. Carlos Belen had a good game as well, collecting three hits on the night.
Leadoff hitter Ho-young Son was solid for Eugene, collecting a two-run RBI double in the loss. Ian Happ was a notable hitter as well with two hits for Eugene.
Tri-City's starting pitcher, Angel Mejia, pitched four innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out and walking two batters for the Dust Devils. Jose Castillo (2-0) earned the win for the Dust Devils, pitching four innings in relief of Mejia, striking out three and giving up three hits.
Starting pitcher Andin Diaz had a short outing in the loss for the Emeralds. Diaz (0-2) pitched one inning before leaving the game without recording an out in the second, giving up eight runs on five hits while walking three batters. Pedro Araujo did the bulk of the pitching for Eugene in relief of Diaz. Araujo pitched three innings, striking out five and gave up just one hit while walking two batters.
The Dust Devils and Emeralds will play the third game of their five game series tomorrow night at Gesa Stadium. There will be postgame fireworks thanks to Pizza Hut. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
