Dumont Signs With RiverKings

July 24, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) -- A key figure in the Mississippi RiverKings' run to the Central Hockey League playoffs last season has signed on for another campaign. Center Louis Dumont has agreed to be a part of the RiverKings as he begins his 15th professional season and third year in the Mid-South.

A native of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward played in all 64 regular season games for the RiverKings last season. Dumont was fourth on the RiverKings' stat sheet in points with 51 and his 35 assists ranked him third on the team in that category. Dumont added three assists in the ‘Kings playoff series with Texas last year.

Dumont was good when it counted for the RiverKings, as six of his 16 goals last year came as game-winners, putting him third on the roster in that category. Louis also contributed in each of the last four crucial games of the regular season, as he scored two goals and added two assists in the push for the RiverKings' spot in the CHL post-season. All four games were RiverKings' victories.

After playing four seasons in the Western Hockey League at Regina and Kamloops, including a Memorial Cup championship (Canada's major junior national title) at Kamloops, Dumont began his professional career in the ECHL at Tallahassee and Wheeling in the 1994-95 season, along with a short visit that year to the American Hockey League with Syracuse. From there, Dumont spent the next several years playing for a number of ECHL teams, including Louisiana, Pensacola, Augusta and Mississippi, with brief appearances in the IHL, AHL, and in Great Britain, before first coming to the RiverKings in 2006. He's been in the Mid-South ever since.

Dumont's name still dots the ECHL record books, including most career points (891) and most career assists (566). He's second in their record book in most career games played (771) and most career goals (325).

While in Louisiana, Dumont played with former RiverKing Don Parsons and played for former ‘Kings coach Doug Shedden.

New RiverKings' coach Kevin Kaminski feels Dumont has a wealth of professional experience he can tap into. "Louis brings experience, knowledge, and leadership on and off the ice. He has all the fundamentals and knows what it takes to win and be a pro. We look for Louis to have a very huge year offensively and yet be sound defensively and play in key roles when games are on the line."

The RiverKings' season opener at the DeSoto Civic Center is only a short time away. Tickets, season and group tickets and sponsorship opportunities are still available for the Mid-South's longest running professional sports franchise by calling the RiverKings' office at 662-342-1755.
