Duke City Gladiators News Release

RIO RANCHO, NM - The Duke City Gladiators were unable to get the W against the Arizona Rattlers in a Saturday night game at the Rio Rancho Events Center. The Gladiators' record now drops to 0-3, while the Rattlers remain undefeated (3-0).

"We've had to make some major adjustments in our team these past two weeks," said Gladiators' owner Gina Prieskorn-Thomas. "While the end score was 43-21, it does not truly capture the heart the Gladiators left on that field."

This is the second matchup between the two teams. During the March 19 matchup in Phoenix, the Rattlers did not allow the Gladiators to score a single point in the second half.

Prieskorn-Thomas said, "I am happy with the strides we have made since our last matchup. We saw a different team on the field tonight for the Gladiators."

Duke City remains without its veteran quarterback Nate Davis as he suffered a knee injury during the week 3 matchup against the Rattlers. Backup quarterback Caleb Holbrook took the field for the second time this season. Holbrook was able to connect to wide receiver Jared Elmore for one touchdown early in the second quarter. Elmore and Holbrook connected for another touchdown late in the second. In the fourth quarter, Holbook was able to connect to wide receiver Darryl Stomum. All three touchdowns were followed by successful field goal kicks by Cody Barber.

"Caleb stepped up in big ways," Prieskorn-Thomas said. "He was able to get several critical passes in. Our receivers did a great job in making key plays, and our defense has stepped up their game. There were plenty of bright spots throughout the game. We need to tighten up aspects of our game and we will see big strides again."

The two teams will face each other for a third time this season June 18 at the Rio Rancho Events Center in a Week 15 matchup.

The Gladiators return to the Rio Rancho Events Center on Saturday for a 6 p.m. matchup against the Bay Area Panthers.
