Northern Arizona Wranglers News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - On Saturday night, the Northern Arizona Wranglers knocked off the San Diego Strike Force, 45-28, and in the process, earned their second victory in a row, which doubles their win total from last season, in just the first three weeks of the 2022 season.
The Wranglers are starting to build some continuity in 2022, as they've put together back-to-back wins for the first time in franchise history. The team also won each of their last two games by 17 or more points. The Wranglers will stroll into their first bye week of the season with a 2-1 record, with both wins coming at Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center.
During their matchup with the Strike Force, the Wranglers found success on the field early, and quite often.
Northern Arizona took a 7-0 lead on the game's opening possession, as quarterback Kaleb Barker connected with wide receiver Quentin Randolph on a 15-yard touchdown pass. On the ensuing kickoff, Wranglers defensive back Marquise Bridges tackled Strike Force returner, Ishmael Adams, in the end zone, for the one-point rogue. The first quarter ended with the Wranglers leading 8-3.
In the second quarter, the Wranglers outscored the Strike Force by 11. The 17 points they scored in the quarter, were courtesy of two rushing touchdowns - one coming from wide receiver Glen Gibbons Jr., and the other courtesy of Barker. Wranglers' kicker Brandon Fischer also nailed a field goal from 42 yards out.
The Wranglers led at halftime by a score of 25-9.
Barker ran for another touchdown in the third quarter, and running back Stanley "Boom" Williams found the end zone twice in the fourth quarter. The Wranglers defense held Strike Force quarterback Steven Cluley to just 109 yards passing on 35 attempts.
The Wranglers played another complete game in Saturday's win over San Diego. You can view full stats for the game by clicking on the box score details from our schedule page.
The Wranglers will return to Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center, on April 16th, to host the Vegas Knight Hawks. The Knight Hawks beat the Wranglers, in the season opener, by a score of 22-9, just over two weeks ago. Since then, the Wranglers have shown drastic improvements.
The Wranglers are most certainly seeking revenge against the Knight Hawks, for that loss, and they're excited for the opportunity to play them for the second time in a month.
