Dugas Homers, CT Tigers Swept in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Dayton Dugas hit his team-leading third home run of the season but the Connecticut Tigers (23-27) settled for three hits on a second straight night as the Brooklyn Cyclones (29-25) completed a three-game sweep with a 9-2 decision on Friday night at MCU Park.

Brooklyn jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings. In his first New York-Penn League start, Kacey Murphy (Loss, 0-1) gave up five earned runs on five hits including a two-run homer by Chandler Avant in the second inning. The 21-year-old lefty exited after 1 2/3 innings with no strikeouts recorded. Two relievers followed in their NYPL debuts as Stevie Ledesma gave up two RBI singles in the fourth for a 7-0 Brooklyn lead and Juan Aguilera followed with two hitless innings.

Cyclones starter Kyle Wilson (Win, 2-3) pitched five hitless innings with one walk and a career-best 10 strikeouts. Reliever Eric Hanhold carried the no-hitter through six complete innings before Eric De La Rosa tallied Connecticut's first hit on a single to left field with one out in the seventh inning against Andrew Mitchell. The next batter, Dugas, hit a towering home run to left field for his third round-tripper in 24 games with Connecticut to cut the Brooklyn lead to 7-2. The 21-year-old right fielder from Wichita State led the Tigers with two runs batted in.

In the eighth inning, Brooklyn hit a fourth home run in the three-game series on a Jose Medina two-run shot against Arvicent Perez. The Tigers were outscored 24-8 during the series sweep and dropped to 0-6 against the Cyclones this season.

The Tigers will try to snap a five-game losing streak when they return home to Dodd Stadium on Saturday for the first of two weekend doubleheaders against the Staten Island Yankees. Connecticut lefty Adam Wolf (1-1, 4.42) throws the first pitch in Game 1 at 5:05 p.m. and righty Jose Vasquez (4-1, 1.94) is scheduled to start Game 2.
