Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder announced today that they have re-signed veteran left wing Jason Duda, for the 2002-03 season.

Duda, 27, is coming off another tremendous season in which he finished fifth in the CHL in scoring, with 83 points. He also led the Thunder in nearly every offensive category, including goals (35), assists (48), games played (64), power play goals (6), shooting percentage (17.2%) and plus/minus rating (+16).

"Jason was definitely our leader again last season", said Thunder head coach Jim Latos. "He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time and I expect him to have another great season this year."

Following a record-setting, 141-point season with the SJHL's Melfort Mustangs in 1995-96, Duda began his pro career with the Oklahoma City Blazers. He was traded to the Thunder on December 19, 1996 and has been one of Wichita's best players ever since.

After scoring 65 points in 1997-98, his first full season with the Thunder, Jason suffered devastating wrist injuries in each of the next two seasons, causing him to miss a total of 51 games. Still, despite never regaining full motion or feeling in his right wrist, Duda returned in 2000-01 and went on to record a career-best 38 goals and 90 points, while appearing in the 2001 CHL All-Star Game.

Over his first six seasons, Duda has recorded Thunder career records for goals (160), points (373) and shorthanded goals (14). He also ranks second in Thunder history to Travis Clayton in both assists (213) and games played (322). Currently, Duda is also riding a franchise-record streak of 146 consecutive games played.

"Jason is the most underrated player in the league", said Thunder general manager Bill Shuck. "I think his accomplishments and determination, year after year, speak for themselves. Wichita is fortunate to have him back for a seventh season."

The Thunder are expected to open their 11th CHL season with a pair of home games on Friday and Saturday, October 18th and 19th. Season ticket packages for 2002-03 are on sale now, starting at just $120. For more information, contact the Thunder office at 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com.
