(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of infielder Rando Moreno. He begins his first season with Long Island and ninth in professional baseball.

"Rando is a terrific defender who can play multiple infield positions," said Ducks Manager Wally Backman. "His versatility and speed will be important assets to our club this season."

Moreno joins the Ducks after helping lead the San Rafael Pacifics to a Pacific Association Championship in 2018. He led the league with 26 doubles and 354 at-bats while equaling the league-lead with 80 games played. The 26-year-old also ranked second in hits (108), third in runs scored (71) and fourth in stolen bases (25). Defensively, he led all shortstops in fielding percentage (.941), putouts (101) and assists (218), earning a Pacific Association Gilded Glove Award.

Prior to joining San Rafael, the Dominican Republic native spent seven seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization, reaching as high as Triple-A. He combined to play 573 games, totaling 495 hits, 247 runs, 172 RBIs, 68 doubles, 12 triples and 88 stolen bases. The infielder earned Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star Honors in 2015 with the Richmond Flying Squirrels and finished the season with a .275 batting average, 118 hits, 59 runs, 19 doubles, three triples and 12 steals. Moreno was originally signed by the Giants as an international free agent in 2011.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
