Norfolk Admirals News Release
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks have announced that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to a one-year contract, and have sent him to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, on a conditioning stint.
Bryzgalov, 34, began his NHL career in 2001-02 with the Ducks, and won the Stanley Cup with the 2007 championship team. The Togliatti, Russia native has played 69 of his 457 NHL games with Anaheim, putting up a 26-23-8 record including a 2.48 goals against average (GAA) and .909 save percentage (sv%), and has posted career numbers of a 220-158-53 record, 2.56 GAA and .913 sv%. Bryzgalov tied an NHL record in the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs by notching three consecutive shutouts, and his shutout streak (249:15) was the second-longest in NHL postseason history, and longest-ever for a rookie.
In 2010 while with the Coyotes, the 6-3, 213-pound netminder was also named a Vezina Trophy finalist for best goaltender after registering career highs in wins (42), shutouts (8), GAA (2.29) and sv% (.920). The 44th overall draft pick has never played for Norfolk, but has been on the roster of Anaheim, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Edmonton and Minnesota during his 11-year NHL career.
The Admirals return home after a six-game road trip tomorrow night when they host the Charlotte Checkers at 7:15 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Scope Box Office, any Ticketmaster outlet, online at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Season tickets are also still available at the Admirals Administrative Office located at Scope Arena.
