Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., March 16, 2005) â The Long Island Ducks, members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, today announced the signings of pitchers Kris Kozlowski and Brian Dorsey, outfielder Dominick Ambrosini and infielder/coach Kevin Baez to contracts for the 2005 baseball season. Each of the four players call Long Island home.
"These signings give our roster an Island flavor," said Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "I'm sure each of them are looking forward to competing in front of their hometown fans."
Baez, born in Brooklyn and currently a resident of Lindenhurst, enters his fourth season with Long Island in 2005 and second in the role of player/coach. Originally drafted by the New York Mets in 1988, Baez was selected to the Atlantic League All-Star team last season and took home MVP honors by going 2-for-4, driving in two runs and scoring the go-ahead run in the North's 10-8 victory over the South at Camden's Campbell's Field. A veteran of 63 major league and 1,687 minor league games, the 38-year old registered career-highs in hits (113) and doubles (27) in 2000 with the Norfolk Tides (AAA, Mets).
Kozlowski returns for his third season with Long Island in 2005. The lefthander enjoyed tremendous success after being converted from a reliever to a starter one month into the 2004 season. The 27-year old did not lose a decision until his 10th start and highlighted the season with his first career complete game shutout on July 16 at Citibank Park against the Pennsylvania Road Warriors. Kozlowski was a 32nd round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2000 and currently resides in his hometown of East Meadow, New York.
Righthanded reliever Dorsey is a first-time Duck, signing with the club after spending his first three seasons of professional baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies system. The Bethpage native currently resides in Smithtown. Ambrosini, a 24-year old outfielder, was selected by the Montreal Expos in the sixth round of the 1999 draft. The Ronkonkoma resident spent each of the past six seasons in their organization, peaking at the double-A level in 2004.
The Long Island Ducks, 2004 Atlantic League champions, play their home games at Citibank Park and are entering their sixth season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. For further information, please visit www.liducks.com or call (631) 940-3825.
