Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip N.Y., July 10, 2005) - The Long Island Ducks took both games of a day-night doubleheader from the Nashua Pride on Sunday. In game one, the Ducks shutout the Pride 4-0 in front of 6,284 fans at Citibank Park. Pete Rose Jr. hit his fifth home run of the season and first at home to give the Flock all the runs they would need. In the second game, 6,503 fans saw Long Island take out the North Division's first half champs 8-4. Lance Davis picked up the win after fanning five and limiting the Pride's offense to six hits and two unearned runs in seven innings of work.
Game one was locked in a scoreless tie until Rose took Rob Averette deep to right in the bottom of the fourth with a two run shot. A sacrifice fly by Carlos Hernandez in the fifth sent Steve Torrealba home to extend Long Island's lead to three. Pat Lennon scored in the sixth on a wild pitch by Geoff Goetz to round out the game's scoring, 4-0. Justin Lamber (5-0) tossed eight scoreless innings and fanned four, while allowing four hits and two walks. Mike Crudale came on in the ninth and tossed a 1-2-3 inning.
In game two Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Dominick Ambrosini sacrifice fly that scored Chris Latham. Nashua scored two unearned runs in the second to take a one run lead. The Ducks regained the lead in the fifth after scoring three runs to go ahead 4-2. Latham started the rally with a two-run double that was followed up by an RBI single from Hernandez. Lennon scored in the sixth on a double play groundout to put Long Island up 5-2. Jason Johnson, Jimmy Goelz and Hernandez each touched home in the seventh to put the Flock ahead by six. Jimmy Hurst cut the lead to four in the eighth with a two run homer off reliever Crudale that rounded out the game's scoring. Crudale yielded two runs on four hits while striking out two in one inning of work. Todd Erdos closed out the game with a three-up, three-down ninth inning.
