Camden Riversharks News Release

The Riversharks let the last game of the first half slip out of their fingers as they lose 4-2 to the Bridgeport Blue Fish on the beloved mascot Finely's 5th birthday. Included in Finley's birthday celebration were Philadelphia Phantom's Flex, The Courier Post's Spot, The Philadelphia Soul's Soulman, as well as other mascots around the area.

The ‘Sharks threw a total of seven pitchers this afternoon with Todd Rizzo receiving the loss and falling to 4-3. The winning pitcher for Bridgeport was Josh Miller, who tossed for 8 innings while only sacrificing one run. His record improves to 4-5.

All of the runs for the Bluefish came in the top of the ninth, started off by a William Pennyfeather single. Two more base hits from Brady Williams and Steve Larkin as the Bluefish kept the inning alive. The final nail in the coffin came from a three run blast off the bat of Hector Kuilian that sailed over the right field fence.

But the ‘Sharks did not go down without a fight. In the bottom of the ninth, LJ Biernbaum, Ryan Jones, and Troy Cameron each singled with one out with Cameron plating Biernbaum with his single to center. But that would be the end of the Riversharks scoring as Brian Warren got Lipso Nava to ground into the game closing 5-6-3 double play and record his third save of the year.

The next time the Riversharks will take the field is Friday, July 15th as they take on the Lancaster Barnstormers in Lancaster. On July 13th, the Riversharks will be sending left fielder Richie Barrett, shortstop Vic Gutierrez, catcher Guy Lynam and pitchers Jaime Steward and Todd Rizzo to represent the South Division of the Atlantic League in the 2005 North Fork Bank All-Star Game at the Sandcastle in Atlantic City. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the Atlantic City Surf box office, at 609.344.7873.
