QuackerJack named Mascot of the Year; Cam Richardson honored for Groundskeeping Excellence

(Central Islip, N.Y., Oct. 18, 2017) - The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball today announced its 2017 Post-Season Club Awards, as voted upon by league executives, club managers and media. Long Island Ducks mascot, QuackerJack, was named the league's Mascot of the Year, while Head Groundskeeper, Cam Richardson, received the Ray Cipperly Award for Groundskeeping Excellence.

This marks the second time in the past three seasons that QuackerJack has received Mascot of the Year honors, having also received the distinction in 2015. He was frequently seen leading the more than 350,000 fans that attended Ducks games this past season as they cheered on Long Island's hometown team. In addition, QJ was seen throughout the community all year long. He made visits to pediatric units at local hospitals, schools, little leagues, store openings, parades and various other functions. The seven-time "Best Long Island Mascot" is currently looking to defend his title in the Long Island Press "Best of Long Island" awards, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Richardson receives the Ray Cipperly Award for Groundskeeping Excellence in the second year since the award was named after the late former Somerset Patriots groundskeeper. In his second season as the team's Head Groundskeeper, Richardson presided over a brand new field at Bethpage Ballpark after a complete sod replacement following the 2016 season. The field maintained its pristine condition all year despite playing host to 74 Ducks home games between the regular season and playoffs. In addition, the field was home to several outside events, including high school baseball games, softball tournaments, amateur baseball showcases, the Ducks' youth baseball camps and more.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com .
