Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Long Island Ducks put together two string of four singles each on Wednesday evening, and they were enough to defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers, 6-5, in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Lancaster jumped on Ducks lefty Jake Fisher for three runs in the top of the second inning. Joey Terdoslavich and Vladimir Frias reached on singles. Carlos Garcia followed with the game's only extra base hit, a double to left center that scored one. With the infield playing at the edge of the grass, Nate Coronado drilled a single up the middle, getting two runs home.

Long Island reached starter Brooks Hall for the only time in the game in the bottom of the third. With one out Hall walked Anthony Vega and Dan Lyons in succession, the only two walks yielded by the Lancaster right-hander. Jordany Valdespin and Emilio Bonifacio followed with consecutive RBI ground singles to pull the Ducks within one. Travis Snider singled sharply to left to load the bases, and Barnstormer nemesis Lew Ford put the Ducks ahead with a two-run single to right center.

Outside of that six-batter stretch, Hall allowed only three singles and struck out seven over six innings or work.

Lancaster tied the game on an RBI single to right by Frias in the sixth. The 'Stormers loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but could only pick up one run on a force play grounder by Terdoslavich. The big blow never came, and the Ducks were able to rally.

Kevin Munson (2-1) retired Valdespin on his first pitch, but Bonifacio chopped a single into left. A wild pitch moved the tying run to second, and Bonifacio scored when Snider cleared Coronado's glove by inches on a liner to left. Munson retired Ford with a fly ball to right, then, with lefty batting David Washington due, manager Ross Peeples went to left-hander Matt Marksberry. The Ducks countered with right-handed batting Taylor Ard, who lined Marksberry's first pitch into right center for the go-ahead run.

Lancaster put two runners on off Dennis O'Grady (1-1) in the eighth but was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

Wander Perez worked a perfect ninth for his first save.

The Barnstormers head home for an off day then open a three-game series against the Road Warriors on Friday evening. Right-hander Joe Gardner (2-2) will take the hill for Lancaster against lefty Giovanni Soto (1-1). Sportulas will be given away to the first 1,000 fans 18 and over coming through the gates. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.
