New Britain Bees News Release
(New Britain, CT) - The Long Island Ducks (22-19, 65-46) defeated the New Britain Bees (19-22, 54-56) 15-4 at New Britain Stadium on Saturday evening to even up the three-game weekend series at a victory apiece.
New Britain starting pitcher Cory Riordan (7-7) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits (three home runs) in two and two-thirds innings pitched while walking one batter. Long Island starting pitcher Brandon Beachy (3-0) picked up the win, giving up three runs (one earned run) on four hits in five innings on the mound, walking five, striking out three and committing a balk.
Long Island took an immediate 1-0 lead against Riordan when the second batter of the game in Vladmir Frias cracked a solo home run over the right field wall. The Ducks went ahead 3-0 in the second as Deibinson Romero hit the first of two roundtrippers on the night against his former ballclub, a two-run shot to left. New Britain cut the deficit to 9-1 in the home half of the fourth frame thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ozzie Martinez that allowed Bijan Rademacher to cross the plate after he led off with a walk. The flock hit their fifth and final big fly of the contest one half inning later as Ramon Cabrera launched a two-run blast as part of a five hit performance by the backstop which gave the visitors an 11-1 advantage as Cabrera and Lew Ford each had five hits in the matchup. The Bees added a pair of runs in the middle of the fifth courtesy of a run-scoring base nock from Darren Ford that plated Rando Moreno and sacrifice fly by Mike Carp that scored Ford. Rademacher reached base with an infield single after he came to the plate two batters after Ford, extending his hitting streak to eight consecutive games overall which matches his season-high last accomplished July 23rd to August 1st, and it is also the longest current active streak on the team. The boys from the Hardware City scored one more time in the ninth when Ryan Jackson drove in Ford with an RBI double to left centerfield for his eighth two-base hit and 27th rib-eye steak of the campaign. Ford's first four-hit game in 2019 led the way offensively for New Britain.
