Long Island Ducks News Release
Central Islip, N.Y. - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-1 on Thursday night in the final game of a five-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Both teams exchanged zeroes until the bottom of the fourth when the Ducks put up a four-spot against Bluefish starter Joe Bateman. Bryant Nelson's three-run homer to right field and a run-scoring wild pitch did the damage. Bridgeport grabbed their only run of the game in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to center by Daniel Mayora.
James Houser (6-0) turned in another strong start for the win, tossing five and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out nine. Bateman (0-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs on four hits with three strikeouts in three and one-third innings. Jared Lansford earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
Nelson led the Flock with two hits and three RBI.
The Ducks hit the road on Friday to open up a four-game weekend wraparound series against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark.
