Ducks Flock Together for Game One Win
Waldorf, Md. - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-3 on Wednesday night in Game One of the Liberty Division Championship Series at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The Ducks tagged Blue Crabs starter Ben Moore for two runs in the opening inning on Joash Brodin's RBI ground-rule double to left-center field and Ray Navarrete's RBI single to right field. It would stay that way until the fifth inning when Brian Barton tied the game with a two-run double to center off Ducks starter Randy Keisler.
Long Island would take the lead back in the eighth inning on a RBI doubles to left by Brodin and Brandon Sing. Jesse Gutierrez hit a solo homer in the eighth to cut the lead to one, but Jeremy Hill and Leo Rosales kept the Ducks in front to secure the win.
Keisler did not factor into the decision, but pitched six innings of two-run ball, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out nine. Jared Lansford (1-0) collected the win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning, striking out the side. Moore (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits in seven and one-third innings of work. Rosales earned the save with a perfect ninth.
