Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 29, 2009) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 5-4 on Wednesday before a past-capacity crowd of 6,033 in a rain shortened game at Citibank Park.

Southern Maryland got on the board first with a run in the top of the second. Ken Harvey's RBI groundout scored James Shanks, who led off the inning with a bunt single and the Crabs grabbed a 1-0 advantage.

The Flock quickly took the lead with single runs in the second and third innings. Rob Sandora's two-out RBI single in the second tied the game at one and Jose Herrera's RBI single in the third plated Ray Navarrete to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead.

The lead didn't last long as the Crabs came right back with a three-spot off Ducks' starter Jake Dittler in the fourth. Jeremy Owens' two-run dinger was the big blow in the inning.

Continuing the back and forth contest, Long Island regained the lead in the home fourth off Crabs' starter Ryan Bicondoa (7-3). Navarrete's two-out, three-run double gave the Flock a 5-4 advantage.

In the top of the sixth, the rains came and the game was called due to inclement weather. Dittler (3-5) picked up the win firing five and two-thirds innings, yielding six hits and four runs, while striking out three.

Navarrete went 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored, while Lew Ford and Sandora chipped in with multi-hit games.
