Ducey Released by Jacks

June 17, 2002 - Northeast League (NEL)
Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release

Glens Falls, NY- The Adirondack Lumberjacks announced today that they have released former major league outfielder Rob Ducey. Ducey signed with the Jacks over the off-season. Rookie outfielder Junior Madina was signed to replace Ducey on the roster.

Ducey, who was a long-time friend of Lumberjack manager Kash Beauchamp was playing in the Northern League in an attempt to return to the majors following an achilles injury sustained while catching a ball against the wall at Turner Field in Atlanta.

Rob had hit just .245 in 49 at bats this season with two runs knocked in and 14 walks. Ducey hadn't played in the past three games for the Jacks because of the injury.

"Rob did everything we asked of him. He was an asset in the clubhouse and with the younger players," stated Jacks General Manager Curt Jacey. "I wish he was healthy and could produce like we hoped he would."

The release of Ducey leaves the Lumberjacks with only three veterans on the active roster, one less than Northern League rules allow.

The Lumberjacks have rescheduled their Second Annual Boy Scout Campout Night for next Saturday, June 22 against the Brockton Rox. Poor camping conditions and poor conditions for the audio/visual equipment were to blame for the rescheduling. Game time on June 22 is 7 PM. Tickets for this and all remaining home games are available by calling the Lumberjacks Ticket Office at (518) 743-9618.
